The main highways and interstates around the County of York are, north and south interstate 83, east and west U.S. Highway 30. It's about a 50-minute drive to Harrisburg the capital of Pennsylvania, and about 30 minutes to the Maryland border.

Hanover in Adams County, Pennsylvania, is a 20-minute drive from downtown York. German immigrants settled it in the 1700s. They went there to escape religious persecution and they were looking for a place that reminded them of their home in Germany.
The famous battle of Gettysburg took place less than 20 miles to the west of Hanover. President Abraham Lincoln stopped in Hanover on his way to give his famous speech, ?The Gettysburg Address.?
Hanover was incorporated as a borough in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1815.
Today Hanover's economy is a very strong with a diverse mixture of agriculture, manufacturing, and trade. Studies predict that Hanover is growing rapidly at a rate of 32 percent and will continue to do so until the year 2020. Hanover is the fifth largest retail area in Pennsylvania and the eighth largest manufacturing area.
